Ammotec’s electric primer caps for medium calibre ammunition ensure a high rate of fire, precision, and reliability for cannons. RUAG Ammotec has created a complex technology that is clearly superior to conventional methods (gap primers and primers with bridge wire ignition) and has thus set a new standard for next generation ammunition by using so-called metal layer components.

Different types of primers and propellant charge primers (both mechanical and electric triggers) are available. In addition to ignition chains for 30mm ammunition, which is common for light armoured vehicles and is utilized in particular for UN missions, RUAG Ammotec’s product portfolio includes propellant charge primers for artillery ammunition, such as 155mm.

Modern primers, on the other hand, are more specialized and different from the primary propellant they’re meant to ignite. They are divided into two categories: those that use shock-sensitive chemicals and those that rely on compounds that are ignited by an electric impulse.
The primer in smaller guns is usually of the first type, and it is built into the cartridge base.
Handgun rounds, rifle cartridges, and shotgun shells are all examples.

Electric priming is primarily used on larger artillery weapons.
Primers are typically a separate component in artillery, positioned inside the barrel behind the primary propellant charge but there are some guns, such as some automatic weapons, that are built to fire cartridges with integral electric primers.
Primers react chemically to produce heat when struck with enough force generated by the firing pin, or when electrically lit, and this heat is passed to the main propellant charge and ignites it.

Smokeless powder, black powder, primers, and fuses are shipped from the same warehouse as the rest of our inventory.
This ensures that each order only has one Shipping Charge and one Haz Mat Charge (unless you also order products that Ship Separately from MidwayUSA or our Suppliers).

Premium Primers Ammunition

Each order is limited to a total of 25 pounds of Black Powder and 66 pounds of Smokeless Powder, Primers, and Fuse.

Smokeless powder, black powder, primers, and fuses are classified as hazardous materials and can only be shipped by ground freight within the continental United States. Smokeless Powder, Black Powder, Primers, and Fuses cannot be returned for safety and legal/regulatory reasons.

The primer in early black powder guns like muzzleloaders was essentially the same chemical as the main propellant (albeit in a finer powdered form), but poured into an external flash pan where it could be ignited by an ignition source such as a slow match or a flintlock, though some muzzleloaders have primers that look like cap gun caps.

This external powder was connected to the primary charge within the barrel through a small aperture at the back of the gun barrel. Because gunpowder does not ignite when wet, firing these weapons in rainy or humid weather was difficult (if not impossible).

5000 WINCHESTER small pistol PRIMERS are up for bid in this auction. 5×1000 primers in a case.

THIS CASE WAS NEVER OPENED BEFORE! These are the same primers that are used in Winchester manufacturing ammo. Primers are simple to seat and enable rapid and reliable hot ignition for proper shooting in a wide range of weapons in almost any situation. Each primer is meticulously constructed and tested to assure consistent quality and dimensions, allowing for simple loading and fire.

Prior to purchase ammo, it is the buyer’s responsibility to get familiar with their local regulations. To buy shotgun rounds, you must be at least 18 years old, and to buy centerfire or rimfire ammunition, you must be at least 21 years old. Ammunition can only be delivered by ground service.
A primer’s job is to ignite the propellant powder inside a cartridge. The primer does this by containing a little amount of explosive inside a metal primer cap. In technical terms, the priming mixture is crushed between the cap and the anvil when the gun’s firing pin impacts the primer cap. This causes the priming mixture to explode, releasing a torrent of hot gases into the cartridge case through the flash hole. The heated gas inside the cartridge case quickly raises the temperature and pressure, igniting the propellant powder.

A priming cap is a copper-alloy stamping manufactured from rolled sheet. On each stroke, the sheet is put into a small stamping press, where a multiple die set generates over a dozen caps. Nickel plating is common on the caps. Primer caps come in a variety of sizes to suit various uses.
